From here to God knows where.

Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria is the 3rd largest of the Canary Islands and is one of the most popular of the Islands for tourists seeking sun holidays.  It is also known as the mini-continent as you can find different types of weather on the same day in various locations on the Island.

What is even more remarkable there is less the 60km between the capital Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in the north and Maspalomas in the south of Gran Canaria.

Indeed It is possible to see snow on Mount Teide and its neighbouring towns.  Rain or clouds in Las Palmas in the north and cloudless sunny skies in the southern resorts on the same day.

I completely understand why people visit Gran Canaria and enjoy a week or two in one of the many of Gran Canarias hotels in the south and have a 100% beach holiday.  I have done this myself.  Many people want a day on the beach a meal and a beer at night.    When you come from a country such as Ireland you want to make the most of what could be your only weeks of sunshine all year.

Having lived in Gran Canaria a few years now, I feel that the Island has so much more to offer than the southern beaches such as Playa del Ingles.  Maspalomas and Puerto Rico.  If you can, I would highly recommend you take a day away from the beach and visit the many other areas of interest and beauty on the Island of Gran Canaria.
