The occupancy and prices charged in June 2019 in the Canary Islands are out. The trend of lower international visitors to date in 2019 continued. The Islands are facing stiffer competition from other sun destinations.
How did the islands deal with hotter competition in June 2019? Well, all but Fuerteventura raised their prices v June 2018.
6,036,544 international and Spanish mainland visitors stayed in Hotels and Apartments in the Canary Islands in June 2019. That is down 3.1% v June 2018.
Hotel and Apartment occupancy for the Canary Islands in June was 71.4%. This is down 3.96% v June 2018.
If visitors and occupancy are down approximately 3% in June 2019 v June 2018 did prices fall? Nope. The average daily price charged in June 2019 for accommodation was 73.10 Euro up 3% v June 2018.
Lanzarote had the highest occupancy in June 2019 at 78.8%. That is down 2.72% v June 2018.
Hotels were more expensive and apartments slightly less expensive.
The average daily price charged for accommodation in June 2019 was 73.70 euro. That is 4.8% higher than June 2018.
A Hotel room cost on average 80.70 euro a night. 6% more v June 2018.
An apartment cost on average 57.00 Euro a night. 0.5% less v June 2018.
Tenerife’s Hotels and apartments were 77.5% full in June 2019. That was just 0.16% less v June 2018.
The average daily price charged for accommodation in June 2019 was 72.20 euro. That is 1.4% higher than June 2018.
At 72.29 euro per day, Tenerife had the lowest average daily price charged for accommodation in June 2019 of the main islands.
Fuerteventura Hotels and Apartments were 67.6% full in June 2019. That is down a massive 15.05% v June 2018. The decline in the German market is that main cause of the decline.
The average daily price charged for accommodation in June 2019 was 75.00 euro. That was the highest of all the four main Islands but down 0.8% v June 2018.
Bottom of the occupancy class was Gran Canaria. Its Hotels and Apartments were just 64.9% full in June 2019. That is down 3.21% v June 2018.
For the first six months of 2019, Gran Canaria has seen its tourist numbers down but has also seen accommodation prices rise at the same time.
The average daily price charged for accommodation in Gran Canaria for June 2019 was 74.80 euro. That is 6.1% more than June 2018.
A night in a hotel cost on average 85 Euro a night in Gran Canaria in June the highest of the main islands. Up 4.5% v June 2018.
Apartments were better value at 50.10 a night but that is still up 8.3% v June 2018.
