Holiday prices in the Canary Islands in May 2019.

So how much did a Hotel room or apartment cost in the Canary Islands in May 2019? Are prices going up or down?

Overall

Hotels and apartments were 65.8% full in May 2019. That is 2.57% less than May 2018. Lower occupancy did not mean lower prices.

The average daily price charged for accommodation was 73.50 euro per day. That is 1.9% more than May 2018.

A Hotel room cost on average 80.90 per night +1.1% v May 2018. Apartments cost on average 52.2 euro per night +1.8% v May 2018.

Tenerife

Tenerife has been the star performer to date in 2019 of all the Canary Islands. It is the only Island that had a higher occupancy in May 2019 than May 2018. 72.7% that is 1.62% more v May 2018.

Prices in Tenerife are a bit more expensive than May 2018. The average cost of accommodation was 73.30 euro per day +0.7% more.

Hotel rooms cost on average 80.60 euro a night 0.3% more than May 2018. Apartments cost 53.40 euro a night on average 3% more than May 2018.

Gran Canaria

If Tenerife is the best performer in 2019 Gran Canaria as the other large Island could claim to be the worst performer.

Gran Canaria’s Hotels and Apartments were 59.7% full in May. That is down 2.83% v May 2018 and the lowest of all the Islands in May 2019. Gran Canaria occupancy was a massive 13% less than its great rival Tenerife.

Gran Canaria occupancy has been down for the first five months v 2018. Despite this accommodation, prices increased every month so far in 2019 v same months in 2018.

The average cost for accommodation in May 2019 was 75.90 euro per day. That is 5.4% more than May 2018. Gran Canaria had the most expensive accommodation costs of all the Islands.

Lanzarote

Lanzarote had the second best occupancy in May 2019. 72.2% but it is down 1.79% v May 2018.

Average accommodation prices on Lanzarote were 72.80 euro per day. That is up 1.5% v May 2018 but was the cheapest of all the main Islands in May 2019.

Fuerteventura

60.7% of Fuerteventura’s hotels and apartments were full in May 2019. That is over 11% less than May 2018.

Fuerteventura was the only island where prices decreased v May 2018. The average cost of accommodation was 74.00 euro per day. That is 2.5% less than May 2018.
