If you visit Las Palmas and never walk pass Playa Las Canteras you are missing the unique areas of La Isleta and El Confital. You will not find sandy beaches here. What you will find is La Isleta and El Confital Las Palmas has an edge that Las Cantares has not.
La Isleta and El Confital Las Canteras walk
The best way to walk to La Isleta and El Confital is to start from La Puntilla at the very end of the northside end of Playa Las Canteras. This is a concrete space with a great view of the beach.
The first stop on the way to La Isleta and El Confital Las Palmas is the Amigo Camilo Restaurante. If you like fish then this is the restaurant for you. Be prepared to wait as it is very popular with locals and visitors.
La Isleta eat and drink
Five minutes walk from Amigo Camilo Restaurante we are in the outskirts of La Isleta. You have the opportunity here to stop for a beer or to eat. At times there is music here but it is restricted due to this being a residential area.
Or you can wait until you come to the next corner of Isleta. Here is a lovely cafe serving drinks and snacks. Just look back and enjoy the amazing view.
As you move up La Isleta Las Palmas you will pass apartments. La Isleta is a neighbourhood and a community. People live and socialize here.
Keep walking on and just enjoy the scenery of La Isleta Las Palmas. Many days you can see Mount Teide in Tenneriffe 100km away. This is the highest mountain in Spain.
El Confital zone
You are now at the edge of the El Confital zone Las Palmas. Follow the steps down.
The Confital area is a very popular area for sunbathers. People also surf here. There are a few areas at the beginning of the Confital for swimming. Only use designated swimming areas. The sea can be very rough here.
Once you come to the end of the boardwalk you can continue walking further into El Confital. This area is more wild and dusty. People fish from here. It is also a popular area for picnics. There is also a designated nudist area. Swimming should not be done here.
You also have the option here to walk up a small hill and return to Las Palmas another way.
Once you get to the top you can see Cruz del El Confital. You will also be rewarded stunning views of all of Las Palmas.
Just a few minutes down from the cross you can see the Cuevas de Los Canarios. The original Canarian people lived and stored food in these caves.
If you walk the other way you can see the last town of Northern Gran Canaria Las Coloradas. There is not much to see but there is a restaurant and a few bars. The view from the town is worth seeing. From here you can walk down the road to Las Canteras. It takes less than 30 minutes. You can also catch a local bus that goes to the Santa Catalina bus station.
