Built-in 1982 the Yumbo centre in Playa del Ingles will never win any awards for architecture. It looks like the brutalist architecture that was popular in many communist countries. To me, it seems like a giant skip. Nevertheless, the Yumbo centre is probably the most popular area in Playa del Ingles. It is also the biggest gay entertainment zone in Europe.
The Yumbo centre in Playa del Ingles has evolved over the years. It is no longer just a gay area. Today the Yumbo centre is a destination for all people. Gay. Straight and families.
The Yumbo centre in Playa del Ingles has a few faces. During the day most of the bars are closed. There will be a few places where people will be enjoying a coffee or a refreshing beer in the midday heat.
The main activity during the daytime time will be the shops on the floors just above ground level. There are over 200 shops bars and restaurants in the Yumbo centre Playa del Ingles.
These shops sell a wide range of products. Clothing footwear and jewellery are some of the many things you can buy in the Yumbo. The shops remain open until approximately 2100. Some shops
One thing that surprises many people about the Yumbo centre is not only the number of restaurants but the quality of the restaurants. You can find some highly rated restaurants in the Yumbo centre in Playa del Ingles. A good idea would be to check online reviews before you sit down for your meal.
The centre also has some children’s entertainment areas. It is not unusual to see families in the centre until late evening.
There is also a mini golf course at street level.
As the sun goes down and night begins to descend everything starts to come alive. Many bars open and the
If you like the shows, then the drag shows on the first-floor kickoff before midnight and go onto the early hours of the morning. There is also
The centre also has an edgier side. Most of the gay bars are just regular bars with gay people in them. There are also sex bars in the Yumbo centre just like straight resorts. If you want to avoid these bars rule of thumb would be if you cannot see the inside of the bar don’t go inside the bar.
The Yumbo is a lot of different parts of the one jigsaw. It is a bit more relaxed than other entertainment complexes in Playa del Ingles. The bars here are not pushy and very few if any will be trying to force you to do anything you do not want to. The place does look a bit tacky but so does Playa del Ingles.
The big events each year are Gay pride in May and winter pride. Also Carnival just before Easter.
